FROM a Maruti 800 to a Lancer, then on to Skoda, Optra, Mini Cooper and now the first Maybach in India — it's enough to give any girl the thrill.
Janhavi, the daughter of Rasiklal Manikchand Dhariwal, Chairman of the Manikchand Group of Companies, has been gifted the Maybach for her 21st birthday.
The two-tone Nayarit Silver and Himalaya mid-grey saloon is equipped with the ultimate in automotive technology and has been handpicked by Janhavi for Rs 5.6 crore. Everything that the discerning driver and passenger could possibly require in terms of comfort, entertainment, information and communications has been fitted as standard: From a DVD player and TV receiver to refrigerator compartment and partition doors, all have been fitted into the MH12 CK1799.
A total of two dozen additional options aimed at tailoring the saloons' technical equipment to individual tastes, including parktronic, the keyless-go access, locking system and active seat ventilation, have been added.
The high-end luxury saloon has a total of 10 airbags: two adaptive airbags with two-stage gas generators for the front passengers plus four side bags and two large window bags on either sides of the interior. The three-point seat belt with automatic comfort fit, belt tensioners and beltforce limiters are integrated into the seat and provide full protection to the passengers at all times irrespective of the seat position.
Janhavi, currently a trainee at the Manikchand group, is a third year B.Com student at BMCC Mumbai. Besides studies, her passion is social work at Veerayatan, an NGO in Bihar which is into child welfare.
Dhariwal, taking the keys of the first Maybach from Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of DaimlerChrysler India HansMichael Huber, said his passion for cars started way back in 1957. He kick-started his collection with a studbacker, the rage of the 1950's, priced at Rs 900. Now, his stable boasts of all models of cars in the country as also a BMW 7 series, four Mercedes-Benz, a Lexus and a Jaguar. The collection is updated whenever any new model hits the road, Dhariwal said. "The Maybach will be handed over to Janhavi when she is fully confident of its technicalities," he said.
